What is ‘synthesis’ and how do we improve our ability to synthesize?

Synthesis is the sense-making process of turning data into knowledge and knowledge into insights. It’s also what makes ‘design thinking’ feel magical because this is where new insights are born. However the process of synthesis is often unarticulated, and there is also the assumption that only very gifted experts can synthesize.

Indeed synthesis is hard.

But there is good news. You can practice improving your ability to synthesize!

With this interview, Dr. Jung Joo Lee, Assistant Professor at the National University of Singapore enlightens us on what synthetic thinking is and how we can train our brain to better synthesize.

Her tips? Surprisingly simple and doable. Watch the video.
